I spotted this on Shopbop earlier today. The Dark Knight Rises, anyone?

PS. Happy Birthday, Christopher Nolan!

I’m a bit aSHAMEd…

I am the worst. I haven’t updated in over three months, so if anyone actually reads this, I apologize. I’m going to go ahead and blame it on college taking away all possible free time from me. The good news is that it’s winter break, AND I have three-day weekends next quarter, so I’ll have no excuse not to update.

Also, I am the worst film major. Before last week, I don’t think I had seen a movie in theaters in about two months. To break the dry spell, I decided on Steve McQueen’s Shame, starring Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan. I had heard such good things, and needless to say, I was very satisfied…. much unlike Michael Fassbender’s character Brandon, a sex addict living in New York City whose life takes a drastic turn when his sister Sissy moves in with him.

This film has been getting incredible reviews and award buzz, so go see it while you can! Also Sissy’s style was spot-on which, if you’re anything like me, was an added bonus while watching the film.

What we have here is a gorgeous long-sleeved, gold sequined cocktail dress paired with vintage gold earrings and a bright lip. I think this is THE perfect New Years Eve look, so I scoured the interwebz for a couple gold sequin dresses. After all, NYE is the best occasion to rock some glitter.

Alice + Olivia 'Hanlin' Sequin Dress ($495, Nordstrom), Motel Gabby Dress ($105, ASOS), Sparkle & Fade Tinsel Dress ($99, Urban Outfitters)

SO, here are three very different ways to wear the gold sequin dress. My personal favorite is the ASOS dress in the center. The long sleeves give a nice balance to the short length, and I swear I will forever love anything with even the slightest hint of a shoulder pad. The Sparkle & Fade dress on the right is very basic, but it’s the perfect starter dress- throw on a blazer and/or tights to make the look a wee bit more polished. The Alice + Olivia on the left is absolutely stunning with its cutout nude effect, but it’s a tad too expensive for a college girl’s budget… I can dream, right?

To pull a Rachel Zoe, I DIED when I saw her in this scene. Nothing beats a good fur jacket, but a bright red hat too? Impeccable. I am now dying to find red accessories to wear with my well-loved leopard print faux fur. (Just a warning: if you haven’t already jumped on the faux fur bandwagon, I’m going to keep peer pressuring you to do so. Deal with it.) But if you’re not into the animal print, red accessories are still a simple and chic way to brighten up your plain old winter coat.

Clockwise: knit hat ($6, H&M), nylon tights ($5, Forever 21), Le Pliage large tote ($145, Longchamp), Jenny floppy hat ($78, Free People), plastic oversize saucer sunglasses ($32, Topshop), Tirelessly Tasteful leather gloves ($60, ModCloth).

These are just a few of the many ways you can accessorize your winter outerwear with red, though I must say that my all-time favorite is some good, old-fashioned, red lipstick. I wear NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl ($24), but any cosmetic counter will have a ton of great shades to choose from.

Shame! See it! Oh, and have a Happy New Year!
